Things That Fit On This
Greetings from Cambridge, MA.
Late Summer Edition. This is the time of year when the shop is rather bare, but we love it this way. As new items for Fall slowly trickle in, our space is recreated. New colors and textures begin to inform the mood for the next few months.
Our collection this round was inspired by one of the many rustic antique stools that recently arrived. This one had a particular kidney bean shaped seat and its character just seemed to pipe up more than the others. So, we shot things that fit on it. It's a group of our favorite items in this moment and some are even new for Fall. Hope you enjoy.
HEADS UP: Pod will be closed August 26th - September 4th. This includes our brick and mortar shop and our online shop.
Summer Sale is On
"SALES ARE THE HIGH COLONIC OF THE RETAIL WORLD"
--much adored retail colleague who will go un-named--
SALE. It's a word that evokes many things. It may mean the opportunity to purchase a coveted item that didn't fit into the budget at an earlier time. It sometimes signals a jump-start on holiday shopping. And to some, YAHOOO! Just one more reason to shop, shop, and treat yourself or a friend. Whatever the reason is, there are usually a lot of smiles at our sale and that's just fine by us.
For a shopkeeper though, a sale is always a welcomed way to clean house and mentally prepare for what our next presentation or direction will be. It also allows for the humbling opportunity to acknowledge that the 'oh people are going to love this...' item wasn't such a great idea after-all and... it needs to move along. They can't all be winners and in this way, shopkeeping is a whole lot like gambling. Except, we get to experience daylight and there's a lot less smoking involved.
Here on our site, we're highlighting a few items that are on sale this Summer. There's plenty more in our shop and we hope you'll come by to poke around. The discounts are deep and we're aiming to wrap this up fairly quickly. Don't delay.
Online Sale Begins Tuesday July 17th.
In-Store Sale Begins Wednesday July 18th and will end Saturday July 21st.
End of the School Year Ice-Pop Social: Thursday, June 14th
Thrilled to be hosting Shira Gold's small-batch venture Wild Pops this Thursday, June 14th from 2:30p-4:30p. A Brookline native, Shira relocated her L.A. based popsicle company to Jamaica Plain last year. While Wild Pops are currently found at the Wild Pop Shop, SOWA, and farmer's markets on that side of the Charles River, we're grateful she's making the trek our way, but would love to find Wild Pops a stockist closer to home. Anyone? Anyone?
So, we're officially putting the call out to all eager-to-be-let free kids, exhausted-from-the-overscheduling parents, and over-extended teachers. Temperatures are rising and the last day of school is seconds away. How about we all celebrate with small-batch, all natural, locally made ice-pops. With flavors like Belgian chocolate, coconut, watermelon, and spicy pineapple how can we go wrong? Pops will be $4 each. Let's give Wild Pops a proper YAHOOOO!
Tell your freinds. Bring your dogs. Everyone is welcome.

Double Header Pop-Up: BeautyCounter with Megan Lynch + 11.11 Clothing
April 12th: 5-7p
Friends, locals, and natural skincare enthusiasts! Join us Thursday, April 12th as we welcome our neighbor Megan Lynch. Not only a BeautyCounter consultant, Megan is a Boston-based Nurse Practitioner who will be discussing why she's joined the BeautyCounter movement and advocating for healthier skincare for ALL. She'll have samples on hand and light refreshments will be served.
We hope you'll be able to swing by-even if it's just to break your routine, meet a new neighbor, or maybe chat about how you might be paying a little more attention to the ingredients in your and your family's skincare products. There are so many wonderful product options out there and wonderful vendors selling said products, AND customers on board, but there's still work to be done!
In addition, we'll be welcoming a selection of clothing by 11.11 eleven eleven. Under designers Mia Morikawa and Shani Himanshu, Delhi based 11.11 celebrates seed to stitch clothing production, emphasizing ethical and sustainable relationships between farmers, weavers, vegetable dying, and block printing traditions. Khadi cotton, 100% natural dyes, and 1000% mindful manufacturing are their tenets. We're happy to introduce this brand with a small collection on Thursday, but hope you'll explore more on your own at 11.11 directly.
Introducing Pip Hartle
While we officially welcomed UK potter Pip Hartle to the shop last Fall, we've organized a small interview here. Let's have a proper introduction shall we?
JB: How did you come around to clay?
PH: I had been traveling in Central America for six months and I really missed making. On return to London I signed up for some adult education classes in a few different subjects. I had studied Textiles as a degree years before, but I wanted to try something new. Once I started to get pots out the kiln I was hooked. I loved the physicality of it, the relationship you build with the material and the differences between the various processes involved.
JB: When the stars align, where do you like to eat out in London?
PH: We are so spoiled with food here in London. A few favourites are Moro, 40 Maltby Street, Mengal, Violets, Lelias, Bocca di Lupo, Tyabbs, Silk Road.
JB: What's your favourite shape to throw and why?
PH: That is a tricky one! I guess any shape that is perfectly proportioned is always satisfying. Although sometimes I will throw a technically great shape and it just won't feel like me, so I'd rather throw something that feels like a true representation of me. If its a little off and chunky, so be it.
I think a cylinder is the best place to start and everything else comes from that.
JB: Transportation. Walk, Tube, or Bicycle?
PH: Hands down BICYCLE. you see things on the bike that you just wouldn't see or experience otherwise.
JB: Dogs or Cats?
PH: Dogs. I am a huge animal lover and if I didn't work with clay I would want to work with animals.
I have a dog and I literally cannot express how much I love him. This morning he got the whiff of some poor creature and I had to scale fences and fight through brambles to find him. But I still can't help but adore life with an animal.
